Prof. Dr. Jörg M. Fegert M.D. is funder and Medical Director of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Ulm University Medical Center. He is Past President and Congress President (Ulm 2017) of the German Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy (DGKJP) as well as President Elect (2023-2027) and Board Member of the European Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ESCAP), where he is head of the Policy Division. From 2017 until 2022 he was Chairman of the Academic Advisory Board on Family Affairs of the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth of which he is still a member as well as of the National Council against Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents. He is also President of the Deutsche Traumastiftung e.V. (Foundation for the improvement of trauma care through education and research), spokesman of the Trauma Research Centre at Ulm University (ZTF, grant-aided by the state of Baden-Württemberg) and member of the German Committee for UNICEF e.V. He is director of the Competence Center Child Abuse and Neglect (Com.Can) of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg and director of the Competence Area Mental Health Prevention in the Competence Network Preventive Medicine Baden-Württemberg.

Prof. Fegert’s main areas of work include neglect, maltreatment, sexual abuse, early intervention, psychosomatic disorders in childhood and adolescence, the relationship between youth welfare and child and adolescent psychiatry and other legal and forensic issues. He established a focus on e-learning and dissemination, especially in the field of child protection and trauma research, which became an inherent part of training for professionals all over Germany.

Prof. Dr. Fegert is European Editor of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology (www.liebertpub.com/cap ) and was Editor-in-Chief of the Online Journal Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health (CAPMH) (www.capmh.com) until 2021. Since summer term 2020 he is visiting professor at the University Psychiatric Clinics of Basel, Suisse.
