Ma. Liza Miscala-Jorda
Ma. Liza Miscala-Jorda is the City Prosecutor of Tacloban City. Since 2005, Prosecutor Jorda has focused on cases involving, violations of the Anti-Violence against Women Act, Child Abuse Law, and the Anti-trafficking in Persons Act .
Before her appointment as City Prosecutor, she was part of the Task Force against Human Trafficking in Region 7, an area in the Philippines that is both a source and transit point. She also handled cases of Online Sexual Exploitation of Children. In addition to her prosecutorial work, Prosecutor Jorda speaks to the law enforcers and social welfare officers about three major laws affecting women and children in the Philippines to encourage better implementation. In 2014, the Embassy of the United States of America bestowed on her the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Fellowship Award in recognition of her selfless dedication to uphold the dignity and rights of women and children in the Philippines. She participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program on ” Cooperative Efforts in Combatting Trafficking in Persons” in 5 different states of the United States.
In December 2021, she was invited by the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors in Rome, Italy as speaker on Rights of Alleged Victims in the Philippines. She also wrote a paper relative thereto.
She was also invited last June 2022 as Discussant in the International Safeguarding Conference at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, Italy on the, ” Institutional Challenges of Reporting Child Abuse”.
